Juvenile Taken into Custody in Case of Luring Minor Girl Away on Promise of Marriage.
UP/Shahjahanpur, July 16: Puwayan Police have taken a juvenile into custody in connection with a case involving the alleged abduction of a minor girl after luring her with the promise of marriage. Based on evidence collected during the investigation, additional serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been invoked.
According to the police, on July 11, 2026, a case (FIR No. 411/2026) was registered at Puwayan Police Station under Sections 137(2)/87 of the BNS on the complaint of the victim’s father. He alleged that his approximately 14-year-old daughter had been enticed and taken away by the accused on the pretext of marriage.
Acting under the directions of the Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur, as part of the ongoing crime control campaign, a police team working under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), the Circle Officer, Puwayan, and the Station House Officer, Puwayan, conducted an operation. Acting on a tip-off, the team took the approximately 17-year-old juvenile into custody from beneath the Dhara Underpass at around 1:35 p.m. on Thursday.
During the investigation, evidence led to the addition of Section 65(1) of the BNS and Sections 3 and 4(2) of the POCSO Act to the case. Police stated that after completing the necessary legal formalities, the juvenile is being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings.
