Tilhar Police Crack Vehicle Theft Gang, Arrest Five, But Other CCTV-Captured Thefts Remain Unsolved.
Shahjahanpur: Tilhar Police have claimed a breakthrough in a vehicle theft case by arresting five members of an alleged gang. However, several other major theft incidents captured on CCTV cameras are yet to be solved, with the police so far showing little progress in tracing the culprits.
Police have recovered five stolen Hero Splendor Plus motorcycles and a tampered chassis from the possession and on the identification of the arrested suspects. According to police, the accused used to erase or alter engine and chassis numbers to conceal the identities of stolen vehicles. They allegedly sold the motorcycles and their parts at low prices to dispose of them.
According to police, a case was registered on September 7 following the theft of a motorcycle from the Kunwarganj area. During the investigation, police received information from an informer. Acting on the tip-off, a police team intercepted and arrested Arsh alias Bhura, Kunal Verma and Jagjit Singh alias Jagga near the Saryu Pulia service road on September 11. A stolen motorcycle was reportedly recovered from their possession.
Based on information obtained during interrogation, police raided Raza Auto Service near Bakshi Tiraha and arrested two more suspects, Faizan alias Munna and Aman. During a search of the shop, four more stolen motorcycles and a tampered chassis were recovered.
Police said that the gang would erase or alter the engine and chassis numbers of stolen motorcycles to conceal their identity before selling the vehicles or their parts at low prices. Four cases related to vehicle theft have reportedly been registered against the arrested accused in the Tilhar area. Additional legal sections have also been added on the basis of the recoveries.
Other CCTV-Captured Thefts Still Awaiting a Breakthrough
Meanwhile, questions are being raised over several other theft incidents in Tilhar. A theft at an oil extraction unit on Rajanpur Road, where the shutter was allegedly broken and around ₹50,000 in cash was stolen, was captured on CCTV cameras. Similarly, an incident at a house in Dodrajpur, where three buffaloes were allegedly stolen, was also recorded on CCTV.
The CCTV footage of both incidents was reportedly handed over to the police as evidence. However, the culprits in these cases have not yet been traced. Local residents say that the continued occurrence of such incidents has raised concerns and may be encouraging thieves, as several CCTV-recorded thefts are still awaiting a breakthrough.
