Shahjahanpur: To mark the completion of 100 years of the Kakori Conspiracy, Shahjahanpur Hindi Rangmanch organized a national seminar at the premises of the mausoleum of Shaheed-e-Azam Ashfaqulla Khan. The seminar, titled “The Historical Role of the Kakori Conspiracy in the Freedom Movement, the Contribution of Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan, and the Struggle of the Revolutionaries,” featured detailed discussions on various aspects of India’s freedom struggle.
The chief guest at the programme was senior litterateur Sudhir Vidyarthi, while Prof. Mohammad Noman, as the keynote speaker, highlighted various aspects of the Kakori incident and the revolutionary movement associated with it. The speakers said that the Kakori Conspiracy was a significant event in the history of India’s freedom struggle, which gave new momentum to the revolutionary movement against British rule.
The speakers said that on August 9, 1925, revolutionaries stopped a train carrying government treasury near Kakori, thereby challenging the economic system of British rule. Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajendra Nath Lahiri, and Roshan Singh, among several other revolutionaries, played important roles in the incident. Following the Kakori incident, the British government launched a widespread crackdown against the revolutionaries, but the action further strengthened the spirit of the freedom movement.
Chief guest Sudhir Vidyarthi said that the life of Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan is a remarkable example of sacrifice, courage, and patriotism. He said that the friendship between Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil stands as an inspiring example of Hindu-Muslim unity and should continue to be remembered. Both revolutionaries gave the highest priority to the country’s independence and did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the nation.
Prof. Mohammad Noman said that viewing the Kakori incident merely as a train-related episode would not do justice to history. It was a symbol of the revolutionaries’ organized resistance against the policies of British rule. Their objective was not personal gain but to liberate the country from foreign rule.
He said that organizing such a seminar at the premises of Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan’s mausoleum holds special significance. It is essential to introduce the younger generation to the struggles, ideals, and sacrifices of freedom fighters through such programmes.
The speakers also emphasized that the history of the freedom movement should not remain confined to books but should be taken to society and the younger generation. They said that India attained independence after a long struggle, sacrifice, and immense hardship. Strengthening the country’s unity, integrity, and spirit of brotherhood would be the true tribute to the martyrs.
During the programme, Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan was paid tribute. Those present offered flowers at his mausoleum and remembered his sacrifice for the country’s independence. Writers, educationists, historians, social workers, and a large number of dignitaries participated in the seminar.
At the conclusion, organizer Alok Saxena expressed gratitude to all the guests and participants. He said that Shahjahanpur Hindi Rangmanch would continue to organize programmes highlighting the great heroes of the freedom struggle and the glorious history of the nation.
Ashfaqulla Khan, Shadabulla Khan, Shamim Azad, and others were present on the occasion.
