Shahjahanpur: In line with its zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the Shahjahanpur Police have arrested two policemen in connection with an alleged extortion case involving a bullion trader. The policemen are accused of threatening to implicate the trader in a false criminal case and extorting ₹2 lakh from him. Four police personnel have been suspended with immediate effect, while teams have been formed to arrest two other accused.
According to the police, the trader submitted a written complaint at Parshurampuri Police Station, alleging that policemen posted at Tilhar Police Station contacted him over the phone on the night of September 4. He was subsequently called to Saraiya Mor in the Parshurampuri area.
The trader alleged that, as he was familiar with the police personnel, he reached Saraiya Mor, where policemen in plain clothes—Constable Virendra, Constable Pankaj, Constable Arun Chitodiya, Constable Tushar and another unidentified person—allegedly took him towards Bhatadevar Road. After crossing Rajbhoj Hotel, they reportedly took him to an isolated location and searched him.
The policemen allegedly placed a polythene packet in his motorcycle and threatened to implicate him in a false narcotics trafficking case. The trader further alleged that he was mentally and physically harassed before being taken to Bilyaganj Police Outpost in Tilhar.
According to the complaint, the policemen then demanded ₹2 lakh from his father and family members. The trader stated that he was released at around 1:30 a.m. after the money was allegedly paid.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the police conducted an inquiry under the supervision of the Circle Officers of Jalalabad and Tilhar on the directions of the Superintendent of Police. After prima facie evidence was found, Case Crime No. 430/2026 was registered under Sections 308(7), 127(7) and 351(3) of the BNS and Sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further proceedings were initiated.
Police arrested Constable Virendra and Constable Pankaj, both posted at Tilhar Police Station. Teams have been formed to arrest Constable Arun Chitodiya and Constable Tushar. The role of an unidentified person is also being investigated.
Police said that the investigation into the case is being conducted by the Circle Officer of Parshurampuri.
